Jim Pruske and I birded the Sunrise area in Mt. Rainier Natl. Park. We
hiked out to the Mt. Fremont lookout tower, hoping to find the White
Tailed Ptarmigan, but came up empty on this hit or miss bird. The hike
was very enjoyable and the birding was not bad.
Here are a few of the birds seen:
Rock Wren - (seen 1 and heard several along the Mt. Fremont Trail)
Mountain Bluebird - 2
Vaux's Swift - 5
Yellow Rumped Warbler - several
Fox Sparrow - several
Chipping Sparrow - several
Mountain Chickadee - many, including 1 nest site
Horned Lark - 2
Cassin's Finch - many
On the way home, we had 3 Turkey Vultures flying over the town of
Greenwater.
