On July 7, Bob Flores found 3 Short-billed and 1 Long-billed Dowitchers,
and a Common Tern at Cow Lake. They were on the west end of the lake along
the shoreline on a point. WA Delorme p 71 7-D.

Also of interest nearby was a Ferruginous Hawk on Wellsandt Rd about 1.5
miles from its intersection with Hill Rd. WA Delorme p 71 7-C.

On July 9, Randy Hill and Bob Flores found a group of 39 Swainson's Hawks
and at least four Ferruginous Hawks in a field along Hwy 24, MileMaker 55
in Grant Co. See WA Delorme p. 52.

Shorebirds seen at Mann Lake this past week include Killdeer, American
Avocet, Greater Yellowlegs, Lesser Yellowlegs, Spotted Sandpiper, Western
Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Baird's Sandpiper, Long-billed
Dowitcher, and Wilson's Phalarope. On July 11 Keith saw an American White
Pelican and a Prairie Falcon.

To get to Mann Lake, from the north end of Lewiston, follow US 12 south
into town, cross the Clearwater River on Memorial Bridge and immediately
take the first left (east) toward East
Lewiston. Turn left (east) onto East Main Street and go about a half mile
to the flashing yellow lights. Turn right (south) onto Lapwai (a.k.a.
Lindsay Creek) Road. When the road forks stay right on Lindsay Creek Road
(Nez Perce County Road 460) and follow it about 5 miles to its terminus at
Grelle Avenue. Turn left (east) onto Grelle Avenue and just past the sharp
right curve, turn left (east) onto East Powers Avenue (a.k.a. Lapwai Road).
Continue straight (east) past the grain towers to the main parking lot. ID
DeLorme 54, A-1.

On July 12, Steve Lindsay found four GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS, including at
least one juvenile, southeast of Worley in Kootenai Co. Take Conkling Rd
east from Hwy 95. Go 0.6 miles to the bottom of a short hill and stop at
the first dirt road, look in the brush and tall grass on the west side of
the road.
Steve also found a ROCK WREN and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW north of Setters off
U.S. 95. Look for the unmarked road to the west that runs along an inactive
quarry visible from the highway. ID Delorme p 60 C-1.

Good birding!!
