the South Jetty of the Columbia River, Clatsop Co., OR

Weather: Wind WNW 5-10; Temp 65F

Method: 1 hour station count from jetty 500m west of 3 rocks
SJCR using 20x60 Bushnell spotting scope and 8x50 Bushnell
binoculars. Birds were sorted as to flyby, sitting on beach, sitting
on ocean or sitting on river.

Notes: About 30% of CASPIAN TERNS were juveniles (I detected my
first juvenile on 7/8). A fresh juvenile CALIFORNIA GULL was among
the adults and ratty first summers. There was also a pretty good
northward movement of HEERMANN'S GULLS. RHINOCEROS AUKLETS are
still around in higher then expected numbers.
