There are a couple of well positioned high tides coming up
around the Columbia River Estuary this year.

The late July combination of 9+ night tide and reasonably high
day tides should fill the SJCR shorebird ponds. Late July
adults are very possible at these tides including adult
STILT SANDPIPERS, PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and RUFFS.

21 Sa 1427pm H 7.4
22 Su 1512pm H 7.7
23 M 1556pm H 7.9
24 Tu 1640pm H 8.1 best bet
25 W 1726pm H 8.2 best bet

There is a fair tide in early August which should coincide with
the WESTERN/LEAST juvenile peak and is a good time to practice
picking out SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS (and Little/Red-necked Stints)

August
2 Th 1252pm H 6.8 best bet
3 F 1332pm H 6.9
4 Sa 1409pm H 7.0
5 Su 1443pm H 7.1

The best looking tide series is in the 3rd Week in August with
the highest day at mid-week (low point for tourists, kids and dogs).
Largish shorebirds (godwits, curlews and Ruff) start turning up
at this time of year.

August
17 F 1229pm H 6.9
18 Sa 1315pm H 7.4
19 Su 1358pm H 7.7
20 M 1439pm H 8.1
21 Tu 1520pm H 8.3
22 W 1600pm H 8.4 best bet
23 Th 1642pm H 8.4 best bet
24 F 1726pm H 8.2

September tides are disappointing this season. There's a sad
little +7.8 in the first week and a stronger +8.8 in the third
week. I suspect focused attention at low tide sites and the
Necannicum Estuary may be more productive in September.

Disclaimer: The Shorebird Forecast is based on Clatsop Beach
high tide tables and past occurrences of shorebirds. Weather,
unleashed dogs and other factors completely out of our control
can affect shorebird numbers. Don't come crying to me if all
you find are KILLDEER.
