Tweeters,

If the P-I claims that White Pelicans are nesting at Fern Ridge
Reservoir, they are incorrect. (I read reports of birds seen at Fern
Ridge every week on OBOL, the Oregon birding E-mail group.) There have
been up to 25 non-breeding pelicans on the reservoir most of the late
spring and summer; there were 2 there most of last year. However, to
the best of my knowledge these birds are NOT breeding-- they are
non-breeders that are simply taking advantage of a good feeding area.

White Pelicans do nest east of the Cascades at least in Harney and
Lake Counties, Oregon, and I have seen breeding colonies in both
counties.
