This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Saturday, July 21, evening update.

Featured birds are Pectoral Sandpiper and Black Turnstone.

Sightings for Saturday, July 21:

The first Pectoral Sandpiper of the southbound shorebird migration was seen
at Iona Island along with 2 Baird's Sandpipers.

Also early were a Black Turnstone and a Dunlin at the foot of 104th Street
in
Boundary Bay.

The highlight of the monthly Terra Nova count in Richmond was an American
Bittern.

Friday, July 20:

A Green Heron was seen at the MacCleary Golf Course, and the Willet and 4
Black Oystercatchers were seen along the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty.

Iona had 2 Baird's Sandpipers.

Thursday, July 19:

In a late report for Wednesday there were 5 Red Knots at the foot of 96th
Street in Delta. Also in the area were300 Black-bellied Plovers, 150
Semi-palmated Plovers, 60 Short-billed Dowitchers and large nimbers of
peeps.
Not surpisingly, 2 Peregrine Falcons were hunting in the area. 1 Baird's
Sandpiper was at the foot of 88th Street.

The Tsawwassen Jetty had 250 Caspian Terns, the Willet, 1 Brant and 1
Bonaparte's Gull.
