Subject: [bcintbird] Bird-banding assistant course

Birders,

I received an "ad" (via the North Okanagan Naturalists) from the Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory in northern Alberta. This institution, in co-operation with Northern Lakes College, is offering an assitant bird-bander training course Aug 19-25 or Aug 26-Sep 1 in Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park near the town of Slave Lake, about 3 hrs north of Edmonton. Participants learn about bird-banding, ethics, operation of mist nets. handling techniques, bird biology, identification, molt, ageing, sexing, and documentation. Cost is $600.00 and does not include accommodation or meals. The contact is Jul Wojnowski at (780) 849-8623. Onformation about the Observatory can be obtained at www.lslbo.org

The course is approved by the North American Banding Council and takes place when many kinds of exciting birds, especially vireos, warblers and other neo-tropical migrants, are flooding through the northern woods.

Chris Siddle.
