Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday July 25. If you have anything to add call Harry
Nehls at 503-233-3976

A FRIGATEBIRD was reported during the week from the South Slough of Coos
Bay near Charleston. The bird has not been relocated.

RUDDY and BLACK TURNSTONES, SURFBIRDS, and TATTLERS arrived during the
week, along with a general shorebird movement. The first reported
juvenile SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was at the South Jetty of the Columbia
River July 24, and the first juvenile LEAST SANDPIPERS were there July
25.

Although HEERMANN'S GULLS are being seen in good numbers the number of
BROWN PELICANS is still lower than expected. Good numbers of RED
CROSSBILLS are now in the southern Coast Range of Coos County.

On July 21 a breeding plumaged EARED GREBE was on the Washougal Sewage
Ponds. A flock of 60 WHITE PELICANS were seen by many circling over
mid-town Portland July 22. These may be the same birds seen on Smith Lake
in North Portland July 26. The flock at Fern Ridge Reservoir is still
being seen.

A group of 10 GREAT EGRETS was at Ankeny NWR south of Salem July 20.

There have been many reports of GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES being seen
lately around the rim of Crater Lake. One was seen July 14 at
Three-finged Jack west of Camp Sherman. A BLACK SWIFT was near Crater
Lake July 20.

The REDSTARTS were reported again July 21 from the Squawback Road
crossing of Indian Ford Creek north of Sisters. A POORWILL was calling at
mid-day there that day.

A group of 30 WHITE-FACED IBIS was near Fort Klamath July 21. Over 4000
were in the fields south of Hines July 22. BLACK ROSY-FINCHES are now
being seen at the rim of Steens Mountain.

Thats it for this week.
