This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Wednesday, July 25, evening update.

The featured bird is Pine Grosbeak

Sightings for Wednesday, July 25:

A flock of immature Pine Grosbeaks were seen in the Ranch Park area of
Coquitlam.

The highlights of a VNHS fieldtrip to Debouville Slough were 4 Common
Nighthawks, 3 Green Herons and an Eastern Kingbird.

Tuesday, July 24:

10 Turkey Vultures were seen over the Greater Vancouver Game Farm in
Aldergrove, and one of the ponds in the area had a Solitary Sandpiper.

Monday, July 23:

Iona had the first juvenile Least Sandpipers of the season, as well as 1
Baird's and 8 Pectoral Sandpipers.

A Green Heron was at the foot of Blenheim in Celtic Slew.

Sunday, July 22:

2 Solitary Sandpipers were seen at Iona Island, though the exact location
was not given. The inner sewage ponds had 3 Baird's and 3 Pectoral
Sandpipers,
while the south side between the 2 outer ponds had a Wilson's Phalarope.

Another Wilson's Phalarope as well as a Red-necked Phalarope were seen at
the foot of 72nd Street in Delta. Also in Delta 2 Red Knots in basic were
seen
flying from 104th towards 88th Street and 1 Red Knot in breeding plumage
was seen at 88th Street.

3 Peregrine Falcons were along New MacClealand Road.

17 Turkey Vultures were at the south side of Burnaby Mountain.

In a late report for Saturday in Pitt Meadows along the nature dyke trail
at Grant Narrows there were 4 Eastern Kingbirds, 1 Least Flycatcher and a
Red-breasted Sapsucker.

Saturday, July 21:
A Pectoral Sandpiper was seen at Iona Island along with 2 Baird's
Sandpipers.

Also early were a Black Turnstone and a Dunlin at the foot of 104th Street
in Boundary Bay.

The highlight of the monthly Terra Nova count in Richmond was an American
Bittern.
