the South Jetty of the Columbia River, Clatsop Co., OR
29 Jul 2001 0930-1000hr

Tide:high
Weather: Wind S 5-10; Temp 55F; drizzle

Method: .5 hour station count from jetty 500m west of 3 rocks
SJCR using 20x60 Bushnell spotting scope and 8x50 Bushnell
binoculars. Birds were sorted as to flyby, sitting on beach, sitting
on ocean or sitting on river.

Notes: There was intermittant drizzle and less then perfect
visibility this morning. I could see to the end of the jetty,
but not to the horizon. Hatch-year GREAT BLUE HERONS are
making their annual show on the beach at the South Jetty. Many
of the easily viewed COMMON MURRES on the water had juveniles
in tow.
