This week end I birded Grays Harbor County in hopes of seeing a BAR-TAILED
GODWIT. I arrived at Tokland shortly after high tide Friday night. A very
light colored godwit grabbed my attention and after a few minutes I was
certain I had seen a BTGO.
This morning at Tokland I saw several extremely light colored godwits and on
reflection, I think I made a bad call. The supercilium on my Friday night
bird did not extend behind the eye. While superficially, the plumage seemed
right, I don't think that's enough information in order to make a call. I
learned that there's a lot more variation to the plumage of a Marbled Godwit
than I previously believed. Be careful!
