This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for July 30,

Things have been quiet in the Tri-Cities but are promising to pick up
shortly.
On July 9, Jack & Murrel Dawson reported 2 GRAY PARTRIDGE in their yard on
July 6. Also at their feeders were several Horned Larks. On July 11, a
TURKEY VULTURE flew over their Benton City home.

Shorebirds are beginning to return and on July 13, Bob Woodley reported
GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, LEAST, WESTERN and SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, a
good number of AMERICAN AVOCETS, 24 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, and 3
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES at the Yakima Delta.

On July 17, Bob Woodley observed a GREAT EGRET at the Yakima Delta. It was
still present on July 19.

Also on July 19, Bob Woodley relocated the BURROWING OWL that has been
present at Columbia Point. A peacock was also present in the trees there.

Migrants are also starting to return. On July 24, Dennis Rockwell observed
a WARBLING VIREO in Two Rivers County Park and on July 29, Scott Dietert
saw a male WESTERN TANAGER in Leslie Groves Park. Although not reported to
the alert, a WARBLING VIREO and a SWAINSON'S THRUSH were at the MAPS
banding project near Wallula Junction.
