Several people have asked about what I mean by the Gearhart
side of the Necannicum Estuary. Well... I mean the side of
the estuary you get to from Gearhart (north side).

There are many vantage points from which to look out on
the Necannicum. The best know is the viewing platform
at Seaside High School. There is a trail that goes north
along the east side of the river. This is recommended if
one is short on time.

The west side can be reached from Franklin St (off 12th)
in Seaside. Park at the pullout beyond the gate to the
sewage treatment plant (no ponds, sorry) and take the
path to the river and walk north.

If you have lots of time, the path from Little Beach to
the mouth of the Necannicum is probably the most productive
and will get you closest to birds. This is accessible from
Gearhart side by taking "G" Street off Hwy 101 to Wellington
and parking at the small parking lot.

As with most of the north coast of Oregon, these spots are
all very popular with non-birders, their children and their
unleashed dogs. It's best to go at mid-week.
