On Saturday afternoon, Gina Sheridan and I stopped by Ediz Hook. We saw one
black turnstone and one ruddy turnstone.

On our way out a few gulls were resting along the side of the road. Two
birds caught our eye -- very large and white. They had sooty-brown smudges
on the wings/coverts, dark eyes, pink legs and large, bi-colored bills. We
identified them as glaucous gulls; an id that was supported by a few others
we spoke to afterward. However, it appears that July 28th is very early for
glaucous gulls. Has anyone else seen these birds or have other thoughts as
to species? I did get photos.
