I spent the past week in the Vancouver (WA) area. Unfortunately it was for work, but I did manage to get out Tuesday and Wednesday evenings for a few hours. On Tuesday 5/29, between about 6:00 and 8:00 pm I visited the River S unit at Ridgefield NWR. 2 Black Terns and 7 Black-necked Stilts were still present at Rest Lake and the wetlands just west. There were also 11 Wilson's Phaleropes present in the shallow ponds along the walking trail north of the auto loop from the parking area beyond Rest Lake. Also around was a Bullocks Oriole, Sora, Purple Martin (2), and many House Wrens and Calling American Bitterns. On Wednesday evening, 5/30, I took the trail towards Silver Star (from grouse vista) at the eastern edge of Clark County. In the area right around Pyramid Rock were 3 Rock Wrens. 1 pair was looking rather territorial. Anyway, a great bird for the county. The habitat in this area looks very good for that species. Also present in the area were 6 singing male Lazuli Bunting.
