This is Kas Dumroese with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington /
Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, Jun 1 (2001). This hotline,
sponsored by Palouse Audubon, is updated every Friday evening. If you wish
to bypass this recording and simply leave a message for me, including the
date of your sighting and the DeLorme atlas page numbers and coordinates if
you have them, push the star button on your telephone now. Otherwise wait
for the beep at the end of the tape. Please give me good directions, your
fellow birdwatchers will appreciate it.

A female MOURNING WARBLER was at Lyons Ferry State Park, Franklin Co WA on
26 May according to Bob Flores. The bird was also observed by K.C. & Steve
Mlodinow, Ryan Shaw, and Bill Tweit. It was on the island across the water
from the day use area near 2 picnic tables. Lyons Ferry SP is in the
southeast corner of Franklin Co where it joins Whitman, Columbia and Walla
Walla counties. Access via WA 261. WA DeLorme 55, D-6.5

An EASTERN PHOEBE is in Leavenworth, Chelan Co WA according to Dan Stephens.
The bird is very cooperative and has been around for about a week. The bird
is on Blackbird Island in the cottonwoods, at the east end of the first
bridge. Blackbird Island is immediately south of downtown Leavenworth. The
bird is cavorting with other Empids and flying under the bridge. WA DeLorme
82, D-3.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW is in Ponderay, Bonner Co ID according to Dean (??),
an out-of-state birder. Ponderay is just north of Sandpoint along US 95. The
bird is in a brushy field behind the K-Mart near the Motel 6. ID DeLorme 62,
B-2.

A WHIMBREL was northwest of Othello, Adams Co WA. The bird was at McCains
Ponds, which are behind Para Pond. The bird was first spotted by Steve
Mlodinow on 25 May and seen later that day by Bob Flores. The bird was
between the first and second pond as you walk in, resting on a burned off
low dike. To get there from Othello go north on Broadway (west end of town
extending north from WA 24) past the processing and storage facilities, SVZ
and cubing plant. When the road crosses the RR tracks it becomes McManamon
Road. Continue across the canal and down the hill past the two potato sheds.
The Para Ponds are just beyond on both sides of the road. WA DeLorme 53,
B-7.

A male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was at Twin Lakes south of Swanson Lakes, just
north of Coffee Pot Lake in Lincoln Co WA on 26 May according to Fran
Haywood. The bird was in a hawthorn just across the lake that has the boat
dock, right up next to the cliff. WA DeLorme 86, D-4. This was 1 of about 4
RBGR reported in WA last week.

At Mann Lake east of Lewiston, Nez Perce Co, ID this past week was a nice
assortment of birds, including 40 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS and a FRANKLIN'S
GULL on 28 May according to Bryan Jamison Jami9197 at aol.com, and 19 AMERICAN
AVOCETS and 3 CASPIAN TERNS today 1 Jun according to Keith Carlson
