BANDING REPORT- Neawanna Wetland Preserve
03 June 2001

Method: Up to eight 9m mist nets are placed in mixed Oregon
Crabapple/Twinberry/Spruce along the the upper Neawanna River,
Seaside, Clatsop Co. OR. Captured birds are measured, ringed
with USBBL numbered metal bands and released. Data on time of
capture and side of net captured are also recorded to gain
an understanding of movements through the area.

Notes: Two hatch-year male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS and a hatch-year
SONG SPARROW were caught today. The 2 recaptured males are also
significant, because they were first banded over two months ago
which establishes site fidelity for Rufous Hummingbirds at the
station.

Also of note was a female BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD which spent
about 45 minutes in the BLACK TWINBERRY (Lonicera involucrata)
patch before taking off high into the air. The majority of Black-
chinned Hummingbird records for Clatsop Co are from early June.
