While operating the Neawanna Banding Station this morning,
Steve Warner and I were able to watch a female BLACK-CHINNED
HUMMINGBIRD of and on for about 45 min. (from about 0800-0915)
The bird was feeding and resting in BLACK TWINBERRY (_Lonicera
involucrata_).

Back- dark metallic green on the back
Crown- gray/green
Face- gray/green; a bit lighter than crown pronounces white
spot behind the eye
Throat- white with very fine dark stippling, no center spot
Bill- longish and slightly decurved.
Breast and Belly- white
Flanks- buff/gray
Tail- Black with large white tips on R3-R5, no rufous.
Wingtips and end of tail were about equal on perched bird.

The bird made occasional chip notes while feeding; flatter
and drier sounding then Rufous Hummingbird.

At about 0900hr a single hummingbird (presumably this one)
flew out of the twinberries and flew very high up into the
air (200+ meters) heading south.

Mike Patterson Alas, to wear the mantle of Galileo,
Astoria, OR it is not enough to be persecuted
celata at pacifier.com by an unkind establishment,
you must also be right.
