Birded a few spots in the rain today. I am beginning to like those rainy
days here. On the way out of Othello between the towns edge and Lee Rd on
7th I saw a Franklin's Gull in a alfalfa field to the west of the road. It
was slow overall, I birded Hooper and found nothing I then moved to Bassett
Park in Washtucna and had my best birding. I had a warbling vireo, two
western wood-pewee, gray catbird, and a imm. or female red crossbill. It
was calling and moving quickly through the conifers and heading south. I
went to Lake Kahlotus, Franklin Co. to look for the white-faced ibis at the
area we had seen nesting activity earlier. I found no ibis, but it was
raining very hard at the time and could have made the difference. Mike
Denny had left me a voice message stating that he had seen nesting activity
there on the 31st of May. I did see 161 eared grebes on the lake and some
were in various stages of nesting. I then went to Palouse Falls and the
only notable bird was a Wilson's warbler.
