While perambulating around Green Lake this morning, I saw three Terns fly
from above the trees on the North end, just before you get to the new
plantation. Following closely behind them (though it was rapidly
outdistanced by the Terns) was a Great Blue Heron, making a horrid racket
and obviously distressed.

We watched them head out across the lake, and the terns were soon diving
and swooping and circling about, with the heron working hard behind them
to catch up and ... and what? What would the heron have done? Attacked
them?

The terns were really the first birds since Red-winged Blackbirds that I
was able to point to on our walks and interest my walking companion. She's
much more of a dog person. :) (She sounds just like a birder, though -
"Oh look! A Clumber Spaniel! It's a rarity around here!" "Oh, look at the
tertiary coloring on that Beagle." "Did you *see* the eyes on that Spitz?
What strange coloring - it must be a juvenile." "That's 3 kinds of
poodles, two kinds of spitzs, a smooth-coated Wheaton Terrier, 3 mutts,
and 5 labs. Quite a dog day!")
