Several Tweeters have queried me on my report of a Pacific-slope Flycatcher
at Field Springs State Park in the Blue Mountains of extreme southeastern
Washington. Their implication is that Cordilleran Flycatcher (might )should
be the "Western" type Empid there. The male position note was heard by
myself each time we passed the actual "spring" in Field Springs Park. To my
ear, this bird called exactly as do the Pacific-slopes I've heard elsewhere
in Washington. It's possible I have a deficit discerning the difference in
position note of this species from Cordilleran, I will confess.

This spot is in the vicinity of the cemented stone structure with piping is
centrally located in the park. Suitable habitat for this flycatcher
surrounds the spring. This great birding (and natural history site) is ~ 30
minutes south of Clarkston. This would be about 8 hours from Seattle; keep
in mind Kahlotus Lake and Washtucna are en route. Hot showers are available
in the park campground for 8 cents a minute - have your quarters ready!
