Greetings All
The Eastern Phoebe was still at Leavenworth's Blackbird Island today.
Blackbird Island is on the south side of US-2 behind Katzenjammer's
Restaurant. There is a small parking area. From there, walk down a short
(~100 foot) ramp to a bridge. The bird was singing persistently from
cottonwoods next to the bridge from at least 9:30 to 11:00 am.
I was very impressed by the habitat on Blackbird Island. Steve Pink and I
roamed around for a pleasant 1.5 hours and had a surprising number (greater
than 12) of Veeries and Catbirds. There was also RE Vireo, MacG Warbler, and
so on. Besides the cooperative phoebe, the most interesting bird was a hybrid
RN X RB Sapsucker.
Cheers
Steven Mlodinow
