Hello Washington birders,

My name is Fred Ertl, and I?m an east coast birder who will be in Washington
State for about a week in early July. I?m looking for about 20 species best
located in the eastern Cascades, and would like to ask you all for comments
on your favorite places (and strategies) to find these birds: Sage and Blue
Grouse, and White Tailed Ptarmagin; Chuckar and Gray Partridge; Golden Eagle;
Prairie Falcon; Flammulated, Long-eared; Spotted, Pygmy, Boreal, and Saw-whet
Owl; Common Poorwill; Williamson?s Sapsucker, White-headed, 3-Toed, and
Lewis?s Woodpecker; Calliope Hummingbird; Sage Thrasher; Townsend?s
Solitaire; Rosy and Cassin?s Finch.

My basic strategy is to bird and camp the Hart?s pass area and the Tiffany
Mountain area, spending perhaps two days at each. At Hart?s Pass, I?d like
to hike the West Fork Passayten trail, snowfields permitting, but where
should I camp in the area? At Tiffany, I?d like to hike Freezout, but again,
where is the best place to camp for Owls? I would then drive south, birding
selected areas on Rt 97 (Chelan Butte, Copper Mt.,Robinson Canyon, Swauk
Pass?), before taking either Rt. 2 or 90 back to Seattle. Again, any and all
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help. And please respond to me directly at
FERTL582 at aol.com.

Sincerely,

Fred Ertl
