Hello Tweeters,

We have had two past sightings of a Barred Owl on our tree farm;
October 29, 1999 and November 7, 2000. We were able to photograph the 1999
visit, but Steller's Jays chased away the year 2000 Barred Owl when we
investigated the ruckus.

Not a hoot was heard from the first two owls, but on the morning of
June 7, 2001 we were suddenly awakened by the hooting of a Barred Owl just
outside our bedroom window at 4:30 A.M. We usually get up early, but not
that early! The unmistakeable hoo-hoo-HOO-awww (Who cooks for you, who
cooks for meeee) went on for several series of hoots, then stopped. We did
not rush out to try to find the Barred Owl; we were just thrilled to have
it choose our tree farm and sound off by our bedroom window. Later in the
morning, the jays again set up a loud ruckus, circling a group of tall
Douglas-fir trees, but without a focus to show where the owl might be.
