This is Kas Dumroese with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington /
Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, Jun 8 (2001). This hotline,
sponsored by Palouse Audubon, is updated every Friday evening. If you wish
to bypass this recording and simply leave a message for me, including the
date of your sighting and the DeLorme atlas page numbers and coordinates if
you have them, push the star button on your telephone now. Otherwise wait
for the beep at the end of the tape. Please give me good directions, your
fellow birdwatchers will appreciate it.

An EASTERN PHOEBE is in Leavenworth, Chelan Co WA according to Dan Stephens.
The bird is very cooperative and has been around for about 2 weeks. The bird
is on Blackbird Island. Blackbird Island is on the south side of US-2 behind
Katzenjammer's Restaurant. There is a small parking area. From there, walk
down a short (~100 foot) ramp to a bridge. The bird was singing persistently
from cottonwoods next to the bridge, cavorting with other Empids, and flying
under the bridge. WA DeLorme 82, D-3.Thanks to Steve Mlodinow for the
directions.

A HARRIS'S HAWK was found 7 Jun in Lewiston, Nez Perce Co, ID by Winifred
Hepburn and Marilyn Smith. The bird was seen again this morning 8 June by
many who report the bird is not banded. To get to the bird from the north
end of Lewiston, follow US 12 into town. Just across the Clearwater River,
turn left and head up 21st Street which turns into Thain Road at the top of
the hill. Keep following it out of town to the bottom of the hill and
Tammany Creek Road. At Tammany Creek Road turn right. The bird often sits on
the 5th to 8th poles on the right, north, side of the road. ID DeLorme 54,
A-1.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW is in Ponderay, Bonner Co ID according to Dean
DiTommaso, an out-of-state birder. Ponderay is just north of Sandpoint along
US 95. The bird is in a brushy field behind the K-Mart near the Motel 6. ID
DeLorme 62, B-2.

An UPLAND SANDPIPER, or perhaps 2, made an appearance near Coolin, Boundary
Co ID on 6 Jun according to Bob Bond. Unfortunately, Bob had to go back to
Salt Lake so we don't know if the bird is persisting. Hurry back Bob!

A BLACK SWIFT was seen 5 Jun north of Priest River, Boundary Co ID by Dan
Audet. The bird was flying over the Priest River. ID DeLorme 62, B-1.

The FRANKLIN'S GULL reported last week at Mann Lake east of Lewiston, Nez
Perce Co, ID was seen again 3 June by Kari Sorenson, as were 4 AMERICAN
AVOCETS. Mann Lake is about 3 miles east of Lewiston along Powers Avenue. ID
DeLorme 54 A-1.

If you have any questions about birds on the report, call me before 9 pm at
208.883.0943. If you see any of the birds mentioned in this report, be sure
to let me know.

Good birding.
