Just briefly, I have to say that if you've ever been to SE Florida, you
can't help but notice immediately how different the Fish Crow is from the
American Crow.

Kevin -

Maybe it's my experience from being raised here in the PNW where crows along
the coast from Eureka to Tofino sound as though they have sore throats, and
there are bigger ones in with the smaller ones, and - oh, heck, I can't tell
an "American Crow" in Yelm from a "Northwestern Crow" in Nanaimo.. I had
the same kinds of doubts about my identifications of crows in the Carolinas
and Louisiana... I believed the local birders/bios when they told and
showed me the differences between American and Fish Crows (enough to 'tick'
the Fish Crow on my life list, anyway...), BUT I sure wonder how the slight
difference in voice between the crows in Astoria, Neah Bay, Olympia,
Campbell River and Juneau (as well as those in Yelm, Ellensburg and
Ritzville...) can justify our calling the "Northwest" Crows a separate
species.

>From what I could hear, there's a bit more difference with the Fish crow,
but it's sure not a *huge* difference.
