Just a quick note on owlish sightings tonight. While pulling into Shoreline
Community College on the Metro Bus at approx. 9:45 pm, a Great Horned was
flying around the parking lot. There was just a glimpse of light left.
There was a crow still 'cawing' very loud for what time it was. The owl must
of really irked the crow. On my way home from work at approx. 1:30am, there
was a Barn Owl flying accross I-405 at Southcenter Mall. I've never had one
there before even though there is farmland in the vicinity. And finally
after turning onto the Orting Highway (hwy. 162), I had good looks at another
Barn Owl sitting on a fencepost on the side of the road. Sightings on this
road are almost an every night occurrence. If there is anyone out there who
wants the best chance to observe these owls when they are active w/o
disturbing them during the day, I highly recommend this road late at night.
More often than not, I can observe these owls for long lengths of time on the
power lines or fence posts. Barn Owls are overlooked somewhat but are quite
