Subject: Indigo Bunting

In Roy, Washington at 10:40 a.m., Sunday June 10, I
saw an indigo bunting fly to a fence just 10 yards
in front of me between the two grassy pastures of a
small sheep farm and horse farm. The light was just
right to get the rich, deep, all-over blue color to
glow, as the bird sat quietly perched in front of me
for about half a minute. I got a good look - no
wingbars like a blue grosbeak, darker and with a much
larger bill than a mountain bluebird. I knew
immediately when I saw it what it was, but I also know
this is way out of their usual range - or is it
anymore? I'd appreciate any input. I was an avid
birder in my youth, but am new exchanging bird
information on the Internet. Can anyone give me more
information on sightings of indigo buntings in the
Pierce and Thurston County areas of Washington?
Thanks! Inga
