This is Kas Dumroese with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington /
Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, Jun 15 (2001). This hotline,

An EASTERN PHOEBE is in Leavenworth, Chelan Co WA according to Dan Stephens.
The bird is very cooperative and has been around for about 3 weeks. The bird
is on Blackbird Island. Blackbird Island is on the south side of US 2. When
entering Leavenworth, turn south on any street and follow it as far south as
you can go, then turn west. Find Katzenjammer's Restaurant. Below the
restaurant is a short (~100 foot) ramp to a bridge. The bird was singing
persistently from cottonwoods next to the bridge, cavorting with other
Empids, and flying under the bridge. WA DeLorme 82, D-3.

A HARRIS'S HAWK was found 7 Jun in Lewiston, Nez Perce Co, ID by Winifred
Hepburn and Marilyn Smith. The bird has been seen daily since. The bird is
not banded, it doesn't have any leg straps, and to date, no one in any
falconer organization has fessed up to losing one. To get to the bird from
the north end of Lewiston, follow US 12 into town. Just across the
Clearwater River, turn left and head up 21st Street which turns into Thain
Road at the top of the hill. Keep following it out of town to the bottom of
the hill and Tammany Creek Road. At Tammany Creek Road turn right. The bird
often sits on the 5th to 8th poles on the right, north, side of the road. If
approaching from the south, turn left at US 95 milepost 297 onto Nez Perce
Co Road 505. Follow 505 past the rodeo grounds and take the second left onto
Tammany. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.

The CLAY-COLORED SPARROW in Ponderay, Bonner Co ID was seen by several folks
this past week.. Ponderay is just north of Sandpoint along US 95. The bird
is in a brushy field behind the K-Mart near the Motel 6. Heading north from
Sandpoint on US 95, continue into Ponderay, turn right onto Kootenai Cutoff,
and then pull in behind the K-Mart. Follow the alley to the end where it
abuts the Motel 6 property. The bird is right there. ID DeLorme 62, B-2.

A MAGNOLIA WARBLER made a brief appearance in Moscow, Latah Co ID on 10 Jun.
First spotted by Charles Swift, the bird was seen by several area birders
before it departed.

WHITE-FACED IBIS are persisting, and apparently breeding, at Kahlotus Lake
near Kahlotus, Franklin Co WA. WA DeLorme 54, C-4.

TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS are persisting in Grant Co WA. There are two locations
to view them, and last week Richard Rowlett had the best luck from the
second locale. To get to the first from Soap Lake, take WA 28 east toward
milepost 73. Just east of milepost 73, turn north onto road 22 NE toward
Marlin. Go 1.9 miles to the large pullout on the north side of the road.
Walk or drive north another 50 yards toward the end of the pull-out and look
down the steep slope into the cattail marsh. To get to the second viewing
spot, again, head east from Soap Lake on WA 28. Before the turnoff at
milepost 73, take the exit off WA 28 toward Wilson Creek and follow it to
the stop sign. Turn right onto Wilson Creek Road and follow it into Wilson
Creek. Wilson Creek Rd becomes Railroad St in town. Continue to Fourth St
and turn right. Go on Fourth St to Maple St and turn left, cross the bridge
and turn right. Continue about a mile to 23 NE and turn right. Follow the
gravel road to the end about 1.5 miles, making sure you don't cross the
railroad tracks at mile 0.7. At the end on the road there's a small
pullover. Park here and walk along the railroad tracks about 100 feet. The
birds are in the field to the south, still about 100 yards distant. WA

Very interesting is a yet unconfirmed report of a single male TRICOLORED
BLACKBIRD in Genesee, Latah Co ID. Seen every day since Tue by Terry Gray,
the description is indeed intriguing. The bird has been coming to his feeder
at 550 North Fir Street, 5 blocks up from the bank.

In Grant Co WA, a single BLACK SWIFT flew over the upper Marsh Unit 3 area
of Columbia NWR on the evening of 13 Jun according to Randy Hill for a
possible county first record.

A male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was north of Creston, Grant Co WA on 13 Jun
for a possible third county record according to Mark Houston
