On Saturday I spent some time birding the Trendwest property off of the
Roslyn Exit, I-90. I saw many of the species frequently seen in this area.
However, there were a few that I hadn't seen before. At the first stop on
the left, after climbing the hill, but before the right-hand curve, there was
a female Williamson's Sapsucker. She was feeding in the trail, moved to a
tree, then flew low into the trees. Further down the "main" road there were
several Calliopi and Rufous Hummingbirds. Additionally, I saw Western
Bluebird in one of the open meadow areas. There were many Common Nighthawks
flying and calling. They seemed to come up and over the property from the
Yakima River. It was a rewarding day of birding.
