On 6/16/01 along the Driveway Butte Trail out of the Klipchuck Campground,
DeLorme D4, page 112 at 3900 ft: a mixed flock (about twenty-five birds) of
Pine Siskins and female and juvenile Red Crossbills feeding on the seeds of
Arrowleaf Balsamroot, Balsamorhiza sagittata. The birds would land near the
base of a stem and climb toward the seed head. The weight of either species
bent the stems over so far that the birds were hanging upside down.
