Hi Tweets

It was a sunny, somewhat hazy morning, turning hot. It felt like summer and
the birds were fairly scarce. It was just MaryFrances and me, and there
weren't even that many dog walkers. There were a few surprises though:

Wood Duck Female with 2 small chicks
Hooded Merganser 1F, RC - first for Marymoor in June
Caspian Tern 1 over slough
Belted Kingfisher 4 seen together near Dog Central
Red-eyed Vireo 2 or 3 heard, none seen
W-crowned Sparrow 1 - first for Marymoor in June
Purple Finch 1 female at Rowing Club
Pine Siskin 1 near weir

The RED-TAILED HAWKS seem to have fledged. There were still hawks in the
general vicinity of the odd-snag nest but I did not notice any immatures. At
the nest near the Rowing Club there was what appeared to be a juvenile about 15
feet below the nest, squawking incessantly. The TREE SWALLOWS in the East
Meadow nest box appear to be going for a second brood. We also found a
BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEE nest with young and a BUSHTIT nest with young.

There were an abundance of AMERICAN ROBIN, adults and immatures. Also, many
sightings of RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD, including a male and female together in the
East Meadow, and three together (2 male and a female?) at the Rowing Club.

The CARP were stirring things up all up and down the slough and in the lake.
They're HUGE. We also had a muskrat near the RC dock, and the usual assortment
of turtles and snakes.

All told, 45 species on a pleasant if somewhat unexciting day. Lots of misses
(no green heron, gadwall, coot, gulls, flickers, osprey, etc.) 13 species were
seen last week and not seen this week. 5 species were seen this week and not
last week.
