Some of you may remember that I reported finding what I thought was a Gray
Flycatcher at the campgrounds in Horn Rapids County Park (DeLorme page 39,
5-A/B) last Saturday when Glenda and I made a quick stop there on our way to
Leavenworth. Ruth Fischer and I went back to Horn Rapids this morning for a
better look. In addition to numerous Western Kingbirds, Eastern Kingbirds
and Western Wood Pewees we did eventually turned up an empid, and while I
think it is probably the same bird I saw last week, we quickly concluded
that it was NOT a Gray Flycatcher. After some study and an attempt to get
it to respond to a tape, we concluded that it was probably a Dusky
Flycatcher based mostly on the perceived bill shape, length and lower
mandible coloring. However, we didn't hear it vocalize, so.......who can
say for sure.
