Tweets, It seems I rarely get to bird much anymore, so much else is going on. Yesterday my husband and I were invited to go to Nisqually with 3 friends who wanted a 2 hour five mile hike. My friend Sharon and her husband were dumbfounded and enthralled, at their first sighting of a male kingfisher fishing, and watched for quite a while through our binoculars. They ended up using them most of the day, since I bird by ear, and were almost giggly watching a common merganser family feeding around fallen logs. Cedar waxwings and yellow warblers, common yellowthroats, and so on were everywhere. It was delightful for me to see the enthusiasm over a song sparrow, and catch on to what the sparrow looked like in flight, and learning quickly to spot the saddles on VG Swallows, and rump patches on Cliffs, I could go on and on. They were SO excited to see a Marsh Wren sing, and become agitated at our presence! The quick hike turned into a 5 hour slow intense birding class, and now the!
