I purchased an Olympus C-700 Camedia digital camera last month. It has
excellent resolution (2.1 MP) and 10X optical zoom, although I don't know
what my true maximum magnification is. It is only 11 oz. and does take at
least a 15 second "video segment". It has lots of features that I haven't
even tried, such as manual aperture and shutter. It also takes AA
batteries and smartmedia, which I purchased two extra cards at 64 mb each
(Costco has them for about $60), and in the compressed mode will use a half
mb per photo. So far my biggest complaint is the B&W grainy image when
looking through the viewfinder. I'm heading to AZ in July and will not be
packing my SLR and lenses, only an 11 oz camera that fits in my pocket.
(Fortunately my son will be bringing his laptop with a CD-R to download
directly to a CD.) They run around $600.
