Hi folks,

Since I'm not at work until they get done inspecting my building, I thought
I'd pass on a couple quick observations.

I was on the 6th floor of the NRB in Olympia, so didn't notice effects of
the quake on any birds (too busy holding onto the legs of my desk from
underneath....), but when I got home at noon I noticed that the juncos were
chowing down on seed; there was a lot of flock activity, calling, and
feeding. How is this different than normal? Well, just that most
noon-to-early-afternoons, the feeders are pretty quiet at my place. Things
were back to normal yesterday and today.

Went out to Nisqually NWR (ground zero) and talked to a few of the bio
staff. They noted that during the quake, the great horned owls flushed from
their tree roosts near HQ, as did a lot of the geese around the area, but
that things settled down pretty quickly. A number of small 'mud flows'
bubbled up out at the refuge, apparently, and some new artesians started
flowing.
