This is Kas Dumroese with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington /
Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, Mar 2 (2001). This hotline,
sponsored by Palouse Audubon, is updated every Friday evening.

If you wish to bypass this recording and simply leave a message for me,
including the date of your sighting and the DeLorme atlas page numbers and
coordinates if you have them, push the star button on your telephone now.
Otherwise wait for the beep at the end of the tape. Please give me good
directions, your fellow birdwatchers will appreciate it.

A flock of 100-200 GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES were about 1.5 miles west of
Little Goose Dam in Columbia Co WA along Little Goose Dam Road which heads
to the dam via WA 261 north of Starbuck. WA DeLorme 55, D-8.

One winter female LONG TAILED DUCK was seen 25 Feb in the Columbia River
below McNary Dam, Umatilla Co OR according to John and Sue Rogers. OR
DeLorme 85, A-7.5

A PRAIRIE FALCON is persisting along US 95 a couple of miles north of
Genesee, Latah Co ID. Look for the bird near milepost 333 and Kluss Road. ID
DeLorme 58, C-1.

At least 2 TRUMPETER SWANS remain at Linda Lake about 4 miles south of
Othello, Adams Co WA according to Randy Hill. Take WA 24 to 1 mile north of
the Franklin County line and then turn west on Yeisley Road. Go a mile or so
west until the lake is in view as the road angles NW, and look west from
that point. On Feb 24 Craig Corder reports the birds snuck into Franklin
county, in a pond just south of WA 24, just east of Sagehill Road. WA
DeLorme 53, BC-7.

A large SNOW BUNTING flock of 50-75 birds is still wandering the Rathdrum
Prairie in Kootenai County, ID. Stephen Lindsay found the flock on 25 Feb
along Lancaster Road, between Meyer and Huetter Roads just northwest of
Coeur d'Alene. Jane Westervelt found them there later in the week. ID
DeLorme 60 AB-1.

Five WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS (3 males and 2 females) were among thousands of
red crossbills on Mount Spokane, Spokane Co WA on 27 Feb according to
Matthew Moskwik and Jim Acton. To get to the birds from Spokane, follow US 2
north from the Newport Cinemas in North Spokane about 3 miles to the traffic
light and jct with WA 206. Turn right on WA 206 following the signs for
Mount Spokane State Park. Go 15 miles to the state park boundary and
continue on the main road until you reach the crest of the road. There's a
snowpark on the right side of the road. Check this area, especially around
the gated road to the summit. WA DeLorme 89, A-8.

If you're still in the mood for SNOWY OWLS, you're about out of time. The
birds are apparently staging southeast of Davenport, Lincoln Co WA before
heading back north. Nine birds were present on 25 Feb according to Jim
Acton, who notes this is their general pattern before heading north. Check
south of US 2 along Detour/Morrison Road. Thanks to Mark Houston for passing
that information along. WA DeLorme 87, C-8.

If you have any questions about birds on the report, call me before 9 pm at

Good birding,
