Hi Dennis (not Netta),
I am in total agreement with you on the matter of the dogs. I was out
there a month ago to walk around and see the Red Shouldered Hawk. Managed to
miss a few "puppy poops" but then stepped squarely in another. Yuck!!!!
On a 5:00 a.m. dark morning a few years back I ventured by myself to
the island to sneak up on the birds in the predawn light. I got out on the
South west side of the trail and heard rustling in the reeds. It took some
looking but their was a hunter marching through with his plastic duck decoys
strapped on his back, his gun and all of his other hunting toys. I stopped
him and directed him back in the other direction. He mumbled something about
having not seen any signs but left to the north of the island without arguing
with me. On hind site this was potentially a dangerous stupid thing to do as
I was unarmed and alone but oh well. All's well that ends well.
My point is, if someone does not want to see a sign it is very much
possible as most the signs are not really that noticeable. I think we should
be squeaky wheels and see what can be done about signs at the beginning of
the bridge to Spencer Island in bold lettering for dog owners and hunters too.

Happy Birding,
