HI,

I had a nice talk with a receptionist at Seattle Parks about dogs in parks
and of course it's illegal to have a dog off leash except in off leash
areas. It's also illegal ($500 fine) to have a dog on any wading or swimming
beach even on leash. I guess enforcement is the problem. They have nice big
new signs at Golden Gardens, still some dog owners ignore them and let their
dogs chase the waterfowl. I was told the person to talk to is Dewey Potter,
her address follows. By the time I called her my interest had shifted to
feeding the ducks bread, but her comments fit the dog situation too:


"Thank you for your phone message; I apologize for the delay in responding
to you. The Park Code contains provisions prohibiting access to wildlife
sanctuaries and prohibiting any harassment of wildlife in parks. There is
no written ordinance or policy prohibiting feeding birds, but we discourage
it because it distracts them from their migratory behavior and from their
natural diet.
