Bird Identification and Monitoring Techniques Session
Tuesday May 8-11, 2001

Location:
Rock Springs Guest Ranch, near Bend, OR. Beginning May 8th, 1:00 p.m. (for 1st time participants), 6:00 p.m. (for returnees) till May 11th, 1:00 p.m.

Cost of food and lodging is $97.00/day x 3 days = $291.00.

Other Options Include: Camping at Tumalo State Park, 1/800/452-5687 or www.oregonstateparks.org for reservations and other information. (includes solar shower, toilets, fire wood, and more! Check the website!)

1) Cost for meals at Ranch and use of the meeting facility for campers $38.00/day, total of $114.00.)
2) Cost without meals and use of the meeting facility $20.00/day, total of $60.00.
There Is No Registration Fee!


The annual preseason bird identification and monitoring primer for Neotropical Migratory birds will be offered at one location only this year. The session is provided by the OR/WA chapter of Partners-In-Flight (PIF), BLM, USDA-FS, and USFWS Landbird Programs.

This will be the eighth year of the Regional Avian Monitoring Workshop. The session is organized to teach bird identification by sight and sound, characterize bird habitat relations and bird communities, and to review techniques for monitoring birds in various habitats. Topics include; practicing point count monitoring, nest searching, line transects, and mist netting. The material covered in the sessions is essential to those who will be doing field monitoring and indispensable to those who are managing or conducting bird monitoring programs.

The session is open to both non-government and government people interested in bird monitoring. There is limited space so registration will be on a first-come-first-reserve basis. If you have attended a session in prior years, repeat attendance is encouraged; you can never learn enough about bird songs/calls and maintaining consistency in the monitoring techniques!!

If you plan to attend the session, please send your completed registration form and payment to Barb Kott as soon as possible. The session is expected to fill quickly, so register early. Once registered you must cancel before April 15, or the payment for room and board will be nonrefundable because of contractual obligations to the host facilities.
