Hi Tweets

Another glorious sunny day. The day was marked mostly by great looks at birds.
There were no real surprises, just a really good morning birding. Highlights:

Canvasback Female at weir
Common Goldeneye Perfect look at weir
Cooper's Hawk Near parking lot around 10:15
Virginia Rail Heard one ticking near weir
Winter Wren Heard at Rowing Club. 2nd Marymoor March
record.
Brown Creeper First Marymoor March record
Tree Swallow? Not absolutely positive of ID
Lincoln's Sparrow Seen Tuesday 3/6
Western Meadowlark Seen Monday 3/5
Purple Finch Male at Rowing Club

The RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS were truly ubiquitous and were constantly singing.
They were easily the most common song heard, and there was almost never a time
we weren't hearing them. We came across the BROWN CREEPER at the start of the
boardwalk. It flew to the trunk of a birch right next to the trail and
proceded slowly upwards in full sun. It was stunning. At the same location,
we had the Ruby-crowned Kinglets, the Brown Creeper, a pair of BUSHTITS (we saw
3 or 4 pairs all told), and some Black-capped Chickadees. It was difficult to
sort out all of the very high pitched sounds coming out of the trees there!

There were turtles and a Garter Snake at the Rowing Club. The most amazing
thing was a deafening cacaphony coming from the natural pond at the Rowing
Club -- PACIFIC CHORUS FROGS in abundance and in full voice at around 10:30 AM!
Unusual to have so many singing so loudly during broad daylight (but perhaps
its still too cold at night). Eastern Gray Squirrel and Muskrat comprised the
rest of the "animal" list.

The Oso Berry a.k.a. Indian Plum was in full bloom today. There were a few
blooms last week but they were the exception.

STARTING NEXT WEEK, MARCH 7, MY WALKS WILL START AT 7:00 AM

All told, we had 50 species today, plus two that I saw Monday and Tuesday on
brief visits.
