Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday March 8. If you have anything to add call Harry
Nehls at 503-233-3976.

A YELLOW-BILLED LOON is now at Yaquina Bay. The CAPE MAY WARBLER is still
being seen seen at Gold Beach but the RUSTY BLACKBIRD apparently has
left. The Cedar Mill SUMMER TANAGER is still being seen.

Although the HORNED LARK and longspur flock has scattered the MCCOWN'S
LONGSPURS are still being seen at the Lower Klamath NWR but it takes
quite a bit of searching the open farm fields. The WHOOPER SWAN
occasionally crosses the state line but spends most of its time in
California. On February 28 a COMMON NIGHTHAWK was reported from the
Klamath area. Peak numbers of ROSS'S and SNOW GEESE are now in the
Klamath Basin.

On February 27 a TUFTED DUCK was at the Julie Butler-Hanson NWR near
Cathlamet, Washington. The TUFTED DUCK at the Astoria Sewage Ponds is
still being seen.

Heavy movements of SANDHILL CRANES and TREE SWALLOWS were reported during
the week. RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS reached Portland and astoria March 4. On
March 2, 1500 KITTIWAKES and 46 RHINOCEROS AUKLETS were off Boiler Bay.

A pair of WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were at Ecola State Park near Cannon
Beach March 4. The male was in full song. A VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW was at
Brownsmead March 3.

The EMPEROR GOOSE was seen again March 1 along Rentenaar Road on Sauvie
Island.

A group of 8 GRAY JAYS are wintering at a feeder in the hills above St.
Helens. On March 7 a singing BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER was in Greenway
Park in Beaverton. The two wintering WHITE PELICANS continue to be seen
at Fern Ridge Reservior.

On March 5 a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was reported near Knox Pond in Malheur
NWR.

Thats it for this week.
