Subject: Electronic signal interference at Montlake Fill

While trying to record some audio at the Montlake Fill last spring, my
audio recording rig picked up some kind of electrical signal---a buzz that
changed
dramatically in intensity depending on the compass orientation of my rig
and body. With no electronic source obvious nearby, I sent my microphone
and recorder to NY for an overhaul. They found nothing wrong. I am
still picking up the signal as of this week.

Lang Elliott and others on the Nature Recordists's listserve tell me
that only directly under high voltage power lines do they typically pick
up such signals. Does anyone have any idea what the source of such a
strong signal would be at the Fill, hundreds of feet from the nearest
man-made structure?
