On Thursday six birders enjoyed an East Lake Washington Audubon field trip to
Tukwila Pond Park near Southcenter and Kent Ponds. Among the 32 species seen
were large numbers of Northern Shoveler and Ruddy Duck along with Ring-necked
Duck, Hooded Merganser, and Pied-billed Grebe at Tukwila. At the Green River
Natural Resources Area (Kent Ponds) there were many Northern Pintail as well
as Gadwall, Bufflehead, Common Merganser, and Green-winged Teal. Scopes
provided a good look at a Northern Shrike. A Trumpeter Swan graced our view
from the south tower and a Ring-necked Pheasant called and flew past us.
Five Red-tailed Hawks circled overhead. By the end of the trip we'd seen one
Bald Eagle and a total of 8 Red-tailed Hawks.
