Hello Tweets,

Today my mother and I birded Kitsap Co. at a few key locations, starting at
the South Port Orchard Airport at 10am, where we encountered 14 MOUNTAIL
QUAIL, along the brushy hillside of the western portion of the airport, as
they were flushed, and were not calling, due to the time of day. Other
notable species included:

1 Cooper's Hawk
1 Hermit Thrush
2 Hutton's Vireos
1 singing Orange-crowned Warbler

Next, we birded the Port Orchard waterfront at incoming high tide, where
good numbers of waterbirds were noted, along with a few notable species that
included:

8 Eared Grebes
25 Brandt's Cormorant, with 1 bird in breeding plumage
5 Eurasian Wigeon
60 Black Turnstones
4 Surfbirds
2 1st winter Thayer's Gulls

At Manchester, up to100 Black Brant were noted foraging along the shoreline.

We birded Mace Lake, just east of Burley, in Kitsap Co., where the male
REDHEAD was refound by itself foraging along the vegetated shoreline along
the west side of the lake, as were several other highlights that included:

8 Ruddy Ducks, with 1 male in full breeding plumage
14 Wood Ducks

A late afternoon check at the mouth of Gorst Creek at high tide produced
minimal diversity, but a several quality species, as we scoped the shoreline
including:

1 Eurasian Wigeon
1 COMMON TEAL, with 43 the dominant subspecies of Green-winged Teal
2 Greater Yellowlegs
1 1st winter GLAUCOUS GULL
1 subadult Herring Gull

Good birding,

Ruth and Patrick Sullivan
