Hello, Tweeters!

I got to the Fill Saturday around 4:30, got only a fleeting glimpse of the
Palm Warbler, then watched a Marsh Wren tear apart the head of a cattail in
search of the perfect piece of fuzz. While standing there I heard
something making an interesting call (for the musicians out there, think of
four-six percussive eighth notes, with the final note accented). Don't
know what it was, never saw it, but it was low in the rushes, and would
stop calling if I tried to get in for a look. Will have to pull out my
birdsongs CDs and try to figure it out.

At about 5:30 the crows started coming in for their evening roost. What an
amazing sight and sound! It reminded me of those WWII-vintage newsreels,
showing the sky full of planes. The cacaphony lasted for well over 5
minutes, with crow after crow flying in.

Also, at Shoveler Pond there were a pair of Northern Shovelers in courting
display (I assume--mutual head bobbing-type movements), with the male
chasing off any other males who'd venture near.

A short Fill experience, but interesting!

Cheers,
