Hello Tweeters,
I am writing this information because so many birders can not find the right
spot where this birds been established for as long i can remember. There was
over 15 birders there on the Airport, and the queston was when and where can
we finding this birds.Scott Ray wrote a good description in "WASHINGTON
BIRDERS"in spring 1993 including a verry good map how to find this birds.
First it is best early in the morning 6.00am ore late evening,as we mention
the people with there Airplanes rented a portion of the Airport, so there
have the right to be there, what we have to be respect. This is where the
Mountain Quails are located.By the time this people are starting it;s over
to see this quails anyway, with out you going to flush them out of the
hillside. The Kitsap Airport is on Sidney Road. You can enter Where the
Restaurant is and drive thurs the hangers. There is a smal white strip next
to the Airport along the road where the people flying there model Airplanes
on weekends between 10.00 AM and 3.00 PM.In the mornings the birds are along
the road and a smal ditch where gravel lays there also can be seen
there. Also on the ende of this road where the Gravel Pit starts ,there is a
smal pad going uphill close to the fence (what got put up last year) going
uphill than turning right is a very good place to watch them also comming
out to the road. This is the most established population in Washington and
easy to be found.
