Tweets and Obolers,
I received this message the other day, has anyone any information on
hummingbird's level of aggression and if they fight to the death? Thanks
in advance.

Hi Wilson,

I wanted to let you know of an interesting sighting I had in my
backyard yesterday 2/25. With the weather being sunny and warmer my
Anna's were very active at the feeders. Mark observed two males
chasing each other around while a female fed at the feeder early
afternoon and then in the late afternoon I saw for the first time a
male (I assume) Anna's doing an aerial courtship manuever in the back
of our house. What alerted me was a weird sound I had never heard and
it was the Anna's swooping down after climbing high in the sky. It
reminded me of the nighthawks at Malheur and the sound they make when
doing their courtship swoop. Then about an hour after seeing that I
found a dead male Anna's on the ground in the near vicinity that I am
assuming was killed by the other male. The dead one wasn't near our
window so I don't think it was a window kill. Do you think it is
possible that one male killed it in a territory dispute? I had heard
about male hummingbirds fighting to the death somewhere...
