My thanks to all the folks who taught me that Stellar Jays will store
filberts where they may. The rascals has messed with me again. I guess we
are lucky. We have lots of interesting yard birds, at least three Stellar
jokers and a neighborhood assassin, (Sharp Shinned Hawk). Now how do I
convince the assassin to go for the neighborhood cats.

Ian,

The filberts in our yard are gourmet food to a number of Stellar Jays in the
neighborhood. Have you seen any of those? Marti

With thanks to Ian Paulsen for steering me in the right direction; my
acorn woodpecker now looks a lot more like a male Downy Woodpecker. Now the
question is, what's stuffing filberts in the cedar stump. I have never seen
a squirrel in my neighborhood. We do have a healthy Red-tail population.
