Subject: feeding Pine Siskins

Tweeters, after having read the last round of messages on siskins and
salmonella, and after finding two dead Pine Siskins this week, one on and
one under our thistle feeder, we're taking in that feeder. I'd rather let
the siskins feed safely on their traditional alder seeds (of which there are
surely plenty) and not see them so often in the yard. There doesn't seem to
be any other species that suffers so much from mortality at feeders, and my
guess is that we're killing them off by the thousands, with the number of
people that feed birds.

Remember, we're trying to Save the Wild Salmon, not Save the Wild
Salmonella!
